In the ears

In a life before strategy, I was an award-winning radio presenter and the Head of Live Broadcasting for a start up radio station in Amsterdam. I think it was the best strategy school out there. A good radio show is just as much about listening as talking, and I've learned more about human behaviour through call-ins and interviews than any strategy book. And there's nothing like the pressure of 10,000+ listeners to teach you how to tell a good story.

slim radio.
How to explain Slim Radio?
Imagine you've just moved to a foreign country alone. On a whim, and because you know no one, you shoot an email to the first page that comes up when you type in radio station amsterdam.
You meet the charismatic radio show director who says that actually, they're just starting and do you want to run this thing? You say yes.
Fast forward six months and the radio station you set up with your new best friends has 20 shows and over 10,000 listeners from Malaysia to Malawi. Everyday you work with artists, producers, sound engineers and presenters to tell the stories you think are missing in culture.
By the end of my time in Amsterdam, we had hosted three sold-out 300 person events at some of the most iconic venues in Amsterdam, and flew out a DJ to perform at a festival we created.
